If you don’t want someone to see your story, you can hide your story from them and prevent them from seeing anything you add to your story in the future.
To hide your story from someone:
- Tap or your profile picture in the bottom right to go to your profile.
- Tap in the top right, then tap Settings.
- Tap Privacy, then tap Story.
- Tap the number of people below. Hide story from.
- Select the people you’d like to hide your story from, then tap in the top left. To unhide your story from someone, tap to unselect them.
You can also choose people to hide your story from as you’re looking at who’s seen your story. Tap to the right of their name and select Hide your story, then tap Hide.

How can we hide an Instagram story?
Hide Your Story is another popular feature of Instagram that allows users to hide their stories from one or more people. In this way, without the need to block them, you can use Instagram’s hide story feature to hide your stories from certain users. In the following, we explain how to hide a story on Instagram using the available methods.
Hiding a story on Instagram is very simple, and any user can hide their stories from one or more individuals using one of the three methods we have explained below.
Note: Keep in mind that your privacy settings affect who can see your stories. If your account is set to private, only users who follow you can view your stories. But if your account is set to public, in addition to your followers, any user can search for your username and view your stories.
Method 1: Hide Instagram Story with Instagram Settings
You can activate the hide story feature on Instagram for some of your followers by entering your Instagram settings. Follow these steps to do so:
Step 1- Tap on your personal profile tab at the bottom of the page.
Step 2- Select the menu button, the three-line icon on Instagram.
Step 3- Choose the Settings option at the bottom of the page to access the Instagram settings section.
Step 4- From the displayed menu, select the Privacy option.
Step 5 – Then select the “story” option to go to the Instagram story settings page.
Step 6 – Tap on “people” in the “Hide Story From” section.
Step 7 – Choose the people from your contact list whom you want to hide your story from. Or search for the desired person’s username in the search box and select it. The blue checkmark next to their username indicates that the Instagram story hide feature has been enabled for that user.
Note: To unhide an Instagram story, tap on the name of the person again to deselect them.
Finally, tap on the arrow icon in the top left corner of the screen.
Method 2: Hiding Instagram stories through the user’s profile page
If your account is set to public, in addition to your followers, other Instagram users will have access to your account via username search and can see your posts and stories. Therefore, if you want to hide your stories from users who are not in your follower list, you need to search for each username on the Instagram search page and then activate the Hide Story option for them.
Step 1 – Go to the profile page of the person you want to hide your story from.
Step 2 – Select the three-dot icon at the top of the page.
Step 3 – Choose the Hide Your Story option.
Step 4 – Instagram will then ask you a question titled “…Hide Story From”. In this case, if you are sure you want to hide your story from that person, select the Hide option.
Step 5 – Now your story is hidden from the person you selected.
Note: Please note that Instagram will not send a notification to the user informing them that you have hidden your story from them. Therefore, by enabling the hide story feature on Instagram, the person in question will not be aware of this action.
Method 3: Hiding the story through the list of visitors
In this situation, you can upload your story and then select individuals from your viewer list who you do not want to display your story and hide it from them. The steps to follow for this method are as follows:
Step 1 – Go to your story section and select the desired person from the viewer list, then touch the three-dot icon next to their username.
Step 2 – Select the Hide Story option.
Step 3 – Successfully hiding the Instagram story
Note: By activating this option, the user in question will no longer be able to see your stories. You can disable the Instagram story hide feature for them anytime you want.

Method 4: Share Instagram Stories only with a specific group of people
Instagram offers a feature called Close Friends that allows you to share your Instagram stories with only a select group of people. This is very useful for those who have thousands of followers on a social network.
Using the Close Friends feature, you can directly share your latest Instagram stories with your chosen followers. Here’s how to set up and use Close Friends on Instagram:
Step 1: Open Instagram and go to your profile.
Step 2: Go to Instagram settings.
Step 3: Go to Privacy and tap on Story. Select Close Friends.
Step 4: From the menu below, select the Close Friend option and tap Done at the bottom.
You have successfully created a circle of close friends on Instagram. From now on, you can share your Instagram stories with your close friends.
Step 1: Open Instagram and tap on the + icon at the top.

How can we remove people from our Instagram Story Hide list?
There are two ways to remove a person or people from your Instagram Story Hide list:
- Go to Instagram settings
- Visit the person’s profile page
Method 1: Go to Instagram settings
Step 1 – Go to your profile page on Instagram and tap the three-line icon at the top of the page.
Step 2 – In the window that opens for you, select the Settings option.
Step 3 – Then select the Privacy option.
Step 4 – On the page that opens for you, tap on the Story option.
Step 5 – Then select the People(0) option in the Hide Story From section.
Step 6 – Choose the people you want to remove from your Hide story list and remove them from your Hide Story list.
Method 2: Visiting the person’s profile page
Step 1- Go to the profile page of the person you want to unhide your story from.
Step 2- Select the three-dot icon located at the top of the page.
